National Personal Financial Challenge


Jump$tart Washington with the Department of Financial Institutions, the  Washington State Treasurer, and the Washington Council for Economic and Financial Education are proud to sponsor the Washington Financial Literacy Challenge .

The Washington Financial Literacy Challenge is designed to recognize students who demonstrate high levels of personal finance skills and reward teachers for outstanding practices in teaching personal finance curriculum.  All high school students are eligible to participate in the program. Consequently, teachers of various courses are engaged in the competition. 

A listing of applicable courses includes (but is not limited to):

  • Business

  • Consumer Economics
  • Economics
  • Family & Consumer Science
  • Career and Technical Education
  • Personal Finance
  • Entrepreneurship.
  • Social Studies
  • Math 
There is no cost to either teachers or students to participate in the Washington Finance Challenge and no formal courses in Personal Finance are required.  To learn more about participating, visit: https://financechallenge.unl.edu/Washington


The National Personal Finance Challenge is the culminating event to state challenges across the country. Participating states may use the Finance Challenge Online portal to offer the online round in their states. Depending on your state, top teams may then move on to compete at exciting on-site events to crown their state champion. Crowned state winners, regardless of how states deliver their competitions, will go on to compete in Lincoln, Nebraska to determine a National Champion.
